Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
On Sunday I worked a craft show with my mom and mother-in-law. My mom is terrified of everything so I was expecting a long car ride there and back. On the way there she did great. No fidgeting or grabbing at the car door or me and no yelling for me to slow down. The car ride home was another story. As soon as we hit heavy traffic I thought she was going to pass out. She was gripping the passenger door so hard her hands were white and her breathing was on the verge of a panic attack. I kept seeing her foot go for the brake that wasn't there. I really wanted to tell her to relax but I knew it would only annoy her and probably start an argument. So I made a comment like "Wow. Traffic is much more heavy now than it was this morning..." and that started her talking about how she hates driving/riding in cars and that she even has Larry (my stepdad) drive her to the store when she needs it. She refuses to drive anywhere unless she absolutely has to. Talking about it seemed to relax her and before she knew it we were past the heavy traffic and she let go of the car door. :)

It's cool that you found a method around it... next time, I'd leave a pez dispenser full of quaaludes and horse tranquilizers in the glove box.

Hell, they're just fun to have around in general! :)

You should just leave her your spare.

*shudder*

I know that feeling all too well. It's scary, and I'm just now making major steps on it.
